The Consulate-General represents the Brazilian Government in matters dealing with the local authorities and the Brazilian community in the area under its jurisdiction. Its objective is to offer the best possible assistance to protect and defend the interests and rights of Brazilian citizens, in accordance with Brazilian and Canadian laws.

The main functions of the Consulate-General are as follows:

- To grant passports to Brazilians and entry visas for Brazil to foreigners;

- To counsel Brazilians with legal and judicial problems and provide the appropriate assistance in difficult situations (sickness, accident, robbery, etc.);

- To act as notary and civil registry, issuing documents such as legal wills; powers-of-attorney; birth, marriage and death certificates; Brazilian military registration; as well as legalization of foreign documents to be used in Brazil.
